World Vision Truck Coming to Cambridge

June 27, 2015 | Janie

Another exciting Experience

Many of you recall that in September of 2012, the World Vision Experience, Step into Africa, arrived at the Isanti County Fairgrounds. Several hundred volunteers from our East Central community joyfully helped increase awareness regarding issues of extreme poverty. Approximately 200 Rwandan children were sponsored by the 4,100 visitors!

World Vision has a new 20-minute mobile exhibit which is due to arrive in our area on September 16. From September 17–20, Our Response will host the World Vision Experience truck at Cambridge First Baptist Church. Though smaller in scale than Step into Africa, the purpose is the same: to alleviate global suffering.

During the 8-hour shifts that the walk-through exhibit is open, volunteers will be needed to help with a number of details, such as handing out headsets. For now, get excited, put the date on your calendar, and more details will be forthcoming soon. If you would like to get involved at the planning level, Steve Fredlund  would be more than happy to hear from you at or 651.587.5435.

Wanted: More Little Dresses for Africa

June 9, 2015 | Janie

For those who love to sew

The next Our Response trip team will leave for Kivuruga, Rwanda, in November and they would love to take with them a few suitcases full of “Little Dresses for Africa.” The dresses are cute and fun to make. You can read all about this wonderful ministry at

Any simple dress that you’d like to make (one without zippers or buttons) will do, but for a pattern that’s quick and easy, it’s hard to beat the free download at

East Central women were incredibly generous several years ago. Let’s do it again! Although bold patterns and bright colors are always fun for kids, you can use whatever fabric you have on hand. So oil up those machines and let’s plan to bless some Kivurugan girls this summer.

If you have questions, please contact Ellen at, or call (320) 629-6800. Please turn your dresses in by November 1. Those living in the Rock Creek/Rush City/Pine City area can bring their dresses to Pine City Evangelical Free Church. Those living in or near Cambridge can bring dresses to the Cambridge First Baptist Church office. It would be so helpful if you could pin a slip of paper to each dress to indicate size. Thank you!
