Our Response is a non-profit organization under IRS code 501(c)3 with the stated purpose to “Ignite a community-wide financial response to global poverty, disease, & suffering”
To carry out this purpose in East Central Minnesota, Our Response has formed a partnership with World Vision to bring transformation to Kivuruga, Rwanda. As Our Response leadership sought out potential partners for impact, a key characteristics looked for was a partner who is actively pursuing solutions that would lead to self-sustainability by understanding the root causes and the broader context (political, cultural, economic). The organizational structure also needed to bridge the communities through relationship rather than simply as a transaction. Finally, the organization needed to be one of high reputation with deep accountability as to expenses and results. Over the course of two years, multiple potential partners were considered before choosing World Vision as the best fit for our work and purpose. The ultimate, long-term goal of Our Response is to finance at least $1
million of World Vision’s work in Kivuruga, Rwanda culminating in a
celebration of Kivuruga’s self-sustainability by the year 2025. To
accomplish this, each year we set annual goals. For 2011, our goal was
to have at least 130 children sponsored by the end of the year. We
currently (as of 12/17/2011) have over 250 children sponsored…. the
actual number will be revealed at our annual celebration on January
29th.
